CorelDraw is arguably the best illustration program on the PC side -- it was one of the first to appear for that platform and has matured with it.

CorelDraw also sports a robust, agile toolbox and a brilliant interface that is totally user-configurable. This review was conducted on the PC, but apart from Mac OS X-specific issues -- and note that version 11 is for Mac OS X only -- comments made about the PC version apply equally to the Mac platform.

3D Studio Max

3ds Max is one of the most widely-used off the shelf 3D animation programs by content creation professionals. It has strong modeling capabilities, a flexible plugin architecture and a long heritage on the Microsoft Windows platform. It is mostly used by video game developers, TV commercial studios and architectural visualisation studios. It is also used for movie effects and movie previsualisation.

In addition to its modeling and animation tools, the latest version of 3ds Max also features advanced shaders (such as ambient occlusion and subsurface scattering), dynamic simulation, particle systems, radiosity, normal map creation and rendering, global illumination, an intuitive and fully-customizable user interface, its own scripting language and much more. Total Commander is a file manager for Windows, a program like Windows Explorer to copy, move or delete files. However, Total Commander can do much more than Explorer, e.g. pack and unpack files, access ftp servers, compare files by content, etc!
