How to Protect Your Privacy on Computer?

Thought your computer is safe with latest antivirus and anti-malware sogtware? This is totally wrong. Antivirus and Anti-Malware software can only protect your computer system from being damaged, and block some attacks from hijackers. But how about security of your privacy? Browsers and websites will always remember and collect your browse history to analyse, so to promote specific advertisement in your browse page. And how do you keep your online search history from being found by people who use your computer? You have to learn how to protect your privacy on computer.

First, clean your browsing history, caches, passwords and cookies , etc. after you exist your browser.

Browsers always offer such options for users to choose. But not many people notice it. Some people will think that it does not matter leaving such files in computer because they think privacy is something more serious, and if they don’t browse any illegal websites, they don’t have to do the cleaning. Later they will find that the advertisements and spam mails come in pile. Trust me, internet is much more complicated than you thought it was.

To clean browser, you will have to do the following setting:

For IE, go to upper menu bar, click tools, internet option, you will open the internet option setting page. Check the box to clean your browsing history when exiting IE.

For other browser, go to upper menu bar, click tools, choose browser setting/option, then find privacy option, you can set the setting for remembering history or not.

Second, use different passwords for different accounts.

It is never wise to use same passwords for all accounts. Internet is never safe enough for one to do that. If you can risk the chance to lose all accounts with one account being stolen, please ignore this paragraph. If you want to keep your accounts safe, remember to set different passwords for each account. You can use a paper to write down your passwords and save it in a safe place in your house. Your house is much more safer than internet.

Third, use a system protector to keep your privacy safe and clean the unsafe files from your computer.

It will detect and clean the unsafe files for you, and protect any malware or virus to steal your information.

How To Keep Hard Disk Healthy

Hard disk is the basic of the a computer system. It is where all the information are written into and read from. If a hard disk is corrupted or injured, the stored information may be lost; more over, the system, which is counted on reading data from hard disk, may crash completely. You may totally lose this computer. The common disk errors are:

  • "Fatal Error - Cannot access hard disk"
  • "Hard disk drive failure"
  • "No fixed disk present"
  • "bad track"
  • "strange sounds when reading hard disk"

The reasons of such errors are complicated. Apart from the regular ageing of hard disk, it may also be caused by hear, low memory or too much dust. To keep the hard disk healthy, we wil need to clean and defrag hard disk regularly. In windows system, two tools are already equipped to help us. They are:

Disk Cleanup tool

Using this tool you can empty your Recycle Bin and remove the following items from your system

  • Temporary Internet Files
  • Downloaded Program Files, such as downloaded ActiveX Controls and Java Applets
  • Temporary Windows Files
  • Unwanted Windows Components
  • Unwanted Installed Programs

To start the Disk Cleanup utility, open the Start menu, point to All Programs, and then point to Accessories. Next, point to System Tools, and then select the Disk Cleanup command.

Disk defragmenter

Over time, the files that belongs to specific programs may be stored all over the hard disk where the space is available. This tool will help you to tidy up the files and keep them within the correct folder to save time for the system to find and read the files.

To run the Disk Defragmenter on your hard disk, open the Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defragmenter command. In the Disk Defragmenter window that opens, select the volume you want to defrag and then select the Defragment button.

Apart from above two tools, you can also refer to third party program to clean up your disk and keep it healthy. A registry cleaner and system optimizer will not only do above for you, but also clean regularly and automatically, and scan your registry errors and other junk files to free up space in your hard disk.
