Sometimes when you try to start a program on your computer, you may see an error message. A lot of times, you can reference the Help and Support files for help with errors but, for other issues, you may not find the solution that easily. Error 126 is one such error. If your computer is displaying this error, it means that a file related to the service you are trying to run is missing or cannot be found. You can fix this error using the Registry Edit function.
- Go to “Start.” Select “Run” and type “regedit.”
- Go to the registry key labeled “HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\%ServiceName%\Parameters.”
- Check the corresponding DLL file name value for ServiceDLL.
- Check the location that is mentioned in the key ServiceDLL and make sure that the file is there.
- Copy the file from a working server with the same operating system and service pack level if you do not find the information in the location mentioned in the registry key HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\%ServiceName%\Parameters\serviceDLL.
- Start the service or program you were trying to use when you originally received the error message; it should run successfully without any more errors.
